The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan. Judy Swanick and Joe Baiocco/Ray Hollinger Scholarship
Our council is excited to once again offer the annual Judy Swanick and Joe Baiocco/Ray Hollinger Scholarship awards. This year 2 $1250 scholarships will be awarded. Applications for the scholarships are due no later than July 22, 2012. Late applications will not be accepted. Inquiries regarding application submission should be directed to Chairman, Scholarship Program – K of C Council 12117 Pat Rowland through email or by phone at 757-618-6940. Young Man and Young Woman of the Year Contest
The Knights of Columbus would like to reach out to all the excellent young people of our community. Each year our council gives out two awards, one for the Young Outstanding Woman and one for the Young Outstanding Man. Any young man or women who is age 12 to 18 and a member of the Church of Ascension or dependent of a Knight of Columbus is eligible.
If you know of such a person take a minute and contact our committee chairman, William Rockwell at757-282-3795 or by email, for an application and specifics.
Applications must be received back no later than February 11, 2012.
Winners receive $150.00 and will represent our council in a statewide competition.

Charity/Service
The council voted to donate $500 to to purchase new Eucharistic vessels for our church.
The council thanks the Father McGivney Assembly for their donation of $200 to help purchase Eucharistic vessels for the church.
The council also voted to donate $150 to the American Wheelchair Mission. (http://www.amwheelchair.org/)
The council received a letter of thanks from the Church of the Ascension Ways and Means Committee for our support during the last church fiscal year.
The council also received a letter of thanks from the Youth of Ascension for our donation of $400 to their golf tournament. The tournament raised funds for youth missions and training.
